Rare Vietnam air combat Type V-8 Gyro Magnetic Compass Indicator installed in the US and Australian CAC ground attack fighter/bomber, the F-86 Sabre

Installed in the US F-86 Sabre and the Australian CAC AVON F-86 Sabre, the Type V-8 Gyro Magnetic compass relied on a rapidly spinning gyroscopic disc whose rotation interacts with the earth’s rotation until its axis of rotation was parallel to the Earth’s enabling it to give an extremely accurate pilot heading.

Located just above the aircraft's Course Deviation Indicator at the centre of the F-86's main control panel, this model was produced in 1953 by the Kerfoot Company for the USAF and also bears a service stamp date of 1962. The knurled dial orientation knob fully rotates the display dial and the unit is in excellent condition for a Vietnam combat veteran.

** The model depicted above is the 1/48 larger scale Australian Avon F-86 Sabre but purchasers can opt for either of 2 different USAF configurations and colour schemes or 2 versions of the Australian RAAF CAC Avon Sabre - all with options of wheels up or down, airbrakes open or closed and cockpit open or closed.

This F-86 Sabre Instrument comes complete with detailed Scale Model, Mango Wood Stand & Plaque plus Printed Fact Sheet featuring photo of instrument in aircraft cockpit.

* Note that this F-86 Sabre Instrument is pictured with a 1/48 scale model rather than the standard detailed, but smaller 1/72 scale. Click on the ‘Model Upgrade' options at the top of this page for the larger, detailed 1/48 or Super detailed 1/32 scale.
