A Balinese rice farmer told me that this was a Balinese Cow Bell but given it is stands almost 30cm high and weighs a little over 2.2kg - I don't envy the poor cow who had this dangling from their neck. I have seen similar bells in a Balinese family compounds and also at a small temple so I'm not really sure what it's true origins are or the identity of the image holding the vase.
Either way, this cast bronze bell is a beautiful piece of art which would look absolutely fantastic in an entrance hallway, garden porch, courtyard or as loungeroom centre piece.
The chain I suspect is a recent addition and I'd replace it with something a little more vintage and chunkier in keeping with its style. There is no Bronze Striker inside although the bronze hoop is there for one to be attached to.
Any thoughts or ideas are most welcome.
I have a mailing price for within Australia but for any interested overseas buyers, please drop me a quick note with your location and I'll get back to you ASAP with some courier cost suggestions before you purchase.
Meanwhile, my Indonesian friends are keeping an eye open for a hobbling bovine in need of some serious chiropractic attention.
310mm high x 155mm wide the cast bronze weighs approx 2.1kg.
The chain attached does not look original and it is also missing a bell striker although the bronze retaining hook is still in place so it would be a simple matter of connecting a new striker.
