This is an incredibly rare late 1920, early 30's Western Instrument Dual Amp/Voltmeter installed in the first United States Army Air Corp all-metal single engine pursuit fighter, the Boeing P26-A 'Peashooter.
With a small 'press-button' at the bottom left of the instrument's dial, the P26-A pilot could determine both the Amps and Volts available to him.
When first released, the aircraft's long, thin tubular gunsight, mounted just forward of the open cockpit's windscreen resembled a child's 'peashooter' and with the aircraft's two belt-fed M1919 .30 cal machine guns hidden from view inside the fuselage, firing through the propeller area via interrupter gears - the public joked that a 'peashooter was all the P26-A had to defend itself.
The informal nickname caught on with army pilots and became a familiar monicker for the aircraft throughout its service life.
