De Havilland Mosquito CAN 5 5C/540 Starter Button and 5c/724 Cockpit Dimmer Switch

The de Havilland Mosquito’s lightweight and streamlined wooden frame together with its powerful twin Merlin Mk 23 or Mk 25 engines - driving their three-bladed de Havilland hydromatic propellers made it the fastest operational aircraft in the world at the time of its first production in 1941.

With its crew of pilot and navigator sitting side by side in its wrap-around cockpit affording full 360 degree views, the ‘Mossie’ as it was affectionately known, was one of the most versatile British designed and built fighter/bombers of WWII.

Located immediately below the De Havilland Mosquito’s three fuel gauges mounted on the upper starboard cockpit wall, the Engine Starter Button sat adjacent to the aircraft’s battery and electrical master controls.

The Cockpit Dimmer Switches were located just under the dashboard’s overhang almost directly above - enabling the crew to reduce gauge glare during night flying operations.

The De Havilland Mosquito's Engine Start Button and Cockpit Dimmer Switch both feature the Air Ministry AM & Crown moulded into the bakelite body giving them a production date of between 1939 and 1945 after which the AM& Crown were discontinued.

The Starter Button has a Ref No: CAN 5 5C/540 and the Cockpit Dimmer Switch : 5c/724

The Starter Button spring push action works as it should as does the rotating Dimmer Cockpit Control and both items are in excellent condition.

This de Havilland Mosquito Instrument comes complete with detailed Scale Model, Mango Wood Stand & Plaque plus Printed Fact Sheet featuring photo of instrument in aircraft cockpit.
