The Handley Page Halifax is probably one of the lesser celebrated RAF heavy bombers flying in the shadow of its more well known big brother, the Avro Lancaster.
The Halifax however proved to be the most versatile of the two, operating with Bomber Command over occupied Europe, North Africa and the Middle East as well as with Britain’s Coastal Command over the channel and the North Atlantic hunting German U boats.
Carrying just over 1,882 gallons of fuel divided between 12 self-sealing wing tanks, the Halifax could also carry additional fuel tanks in its bomb bays.
This extremely rare, Handley Page Halifax, Wing Tank Fuel Cap and still retains its chain keeper.
Salvaged from a destroyed Halifax that came to grief after a landing collision due to a fog shrouded runway, it's a poignant reminder of the many hazards that aircrew faced during the struggles of WWII.
Mounted in its 100yr old, hand-crafted Mango Wood display stand with engraved plaque and highly detailed 1/72 or larger 1/48 scale model of a Halifax perched atop its magnetic display arm, plus a detailed laminated Fact Sheet featuring a photo of the instrument in the Halifax cockpit, this Recovery Curios Aircraft Collectable would make a perfect gift for the pilot or aviation enthusiast in your life.
