The PBY Catalina AN 3215-1 Bendix Scintilla Engine Magneto Switch was mounted on the central arm of the aircraft’s twin control column.
Consisting of two switches, one each for the left and right engine, the Bendix Scintilla Magneto featured a master switch on a central post. which was switched by pulling (ignition off) or depressing (ignition on) enabling both engines to be killed simultaneously.
This is one of two early Bendix Magneto Switches installed in some first run versions of the Lockheed Hudson, PBY Catalina and C-47 Skytrain. The only difference between this 'Push-Pull' Bendix Magneto Switch and the other version was the swapping for 'Right & Left' engine designation for '1 & 2'.
By mid 1941, Bendix had changed their Magneto Switch design to a central 'Stop Up/Down' lever located at the top of unit as seen in the B-17 Flying Fortress.
