PBY CATALINA FLYING BOAT EA48-5-24 4 x TANK FUEL INDICATOR

The Consolidated PBY Catalina was the first production aircraft to feature ‘wet wings’ or integral fuel tanks within the single wing structure, giving the long distance maritime patrol aircraft an incredible range of over 2520 miles.

In 1940 as the amphibious flying boat began to see increased enemy action, the Catalina’s integral tanks were replaced with self sealing tanks. This reduced the aircraft’s fuel capacity considerably so auxiliary wheel well tanks were fitted for longer missions. 

Marked: Left Main, Right Main, Left Auxiliary, Right Auxiliary, the aircraft's tanks were monitored by a 4 part display fuel gauge that allowed the co-pilot to rotate between the 4 primary tanks, flipping the revolving tank dials to display the fuel level for each.

Manufactured by the US company Liquidometer of New York, this is original, war-hardenedPBY Catalina 4 x Fuel Tank Indicator is a rare collectable of an iconic aviation veteran of WWII. The primary dial turns as intended, with each revolving tank content plaque displaying except for the Starboard Auxiliary Tank which is missing its tag.
