Rare all-metal Air Ministry 5c/372 No 2 Mk III Morse Code Sender Key

One essential qualification for all RAF and Coastal Command Short Sunderland  pilots, was to be able to read and send morse code at a minimum speed of 15 words per minute.

Mounted directly in front and slightly below the pilot's control column, the Morse Code was connected to a small external light on top of the fuselage towards the aircraft's tail fin, and used for air to air communication with other Allied aircraft nearby when radio silence was required.

With later Morse Code Sender Keys being massed produced in bakelite, this rare and original all-metal, No.2 MkIII Morse Code Key makes it one of the first units to be installed in the early Short Sunderland flying boats along with the early Hurricanes, Defiants, Spitfires as well as the late 1930s Gloster Gladiator.

This is an extremely rare example of an early Short Sunderland Morse Code Sender Key and would make a fantastic, unique and treasured, original aircraft collectable from a bygone era of one of the RAF's most successful night fighters.
