Small Japanese Marine Lantern

Salt weathered, verdigris coated and well used, this delightful copper marine lamp features a ’swing-out’ hinged lid with locking screws plus a hinged hanging copper loop and single vertical copper safety bar to protect its thick, clear glass lens.

A small copper extended and drilled lug at its base indicates it could also be screwed down and a copper entry tube at the rear side would be where the ship’s wiring would enter the lamp housing.

Manufactured by the Nippon Sento Co Ltd of Japan, this wonderful marine artefact still retains its original rusty data plate in English and Japanese with its ‘approved for maritime’ stamp and production details.

This was a surprise discovery in a farmer's shed up in the hills above Bali’s Ubud district sitting amongst a pile of stacked, dusty bamboo chicken cages.

Imagine this verdigris tinted, vintage copper lamp sitting on a hallway table, bookshelf or mantlepiece in your home - it’s sure to attract attention.

Even better - run a small cable in through the copper side tube and install your own internal light fitting inside this vintage lantern and you've got a beautiful warm and cosy lamp for a hallway or bedroom.
