This original Smiths AI/230 700kt Fairey Gannet Airspeed Indicator is in excellent condition with an unmarked glass face and operating, rotating speed limiter pointer. The rear casing has the manufacturer's production plate and also bears a 1962 service stamp.
The larger needle travels around the outer dial of the airspeed indicator while the inner needle measures off in 100kt increments. Also installed in a number of high speed jet interceptors like the Hawker Harrier and Sea Vixen, where after reaching 666.74 kts (Mach 1 - the speed of sound) the jet pilot would read off the Mach Airspeed Indicator usualy positioned adjacent to the Smiths AI/230 Airspeed Indicator.
