Original Smiths AI/230 700Kt Airspeed Indicator installed in the carrier-launched, British and Australian marine surveillance and anti-submarine patrol aircraft - the Fairey Gannet

This original Smiths AI/230 700kt Fairey Gannet Airspeed Indicator is in excellent condition with an unmarked glass face and operating, rotating speed limiter pointer. The rear casing has the manufacturer's production plate and also bears a 1962 service stamp.

The larger needle travels around the outer dial of the airspeed indicator while the inner needle measures off in 100kt increments. Also installed in a number of high speed jet interceptors like the Hawker Harrier and Sea Vixen, where after reaching 666.74 kts (Mach 1 - the speed of sound) the jet pilot would read off the Mach Airspeed Indicator usualy positioned adjacent to the Smiths AI/230 Airspeed Indicator.

With a highly detailed 1/72 or 1/48 scale model of the Fairy Gannet perched atop its hand crafted mango wood stand, this would make a fantastic gift for any aviation enthusiast.

This Fairey Gannet Instrument comes complete with detailed Scale Model, Mango Wood Stand & Plaque plus Printed Fact Sheet featuring photo of instrument in aircraft cockpit.
