The Air Ministry and Crown stamped Mk IXA 240 mph Air Speed Indicator is amongst some of the earliest instruments installed across a range of early trainer and light bomber aircraft of the RAF.
Entering service in the late 1930’s and with a range from 2 - 240 mph it differed from later RAF airspeed indicators which commenced in the early 1940’s at 5mph or 10mph.
With its bakerlite housing and dial benzel in extremely good condtion for an instrument over 80 years old and with a clear, unmarked glass face, this 240 mph airspeed indicator was installed in the early Handly Page Hampden light bomber and the Avro Anson RAF trainer and observer.
Here is an amazing opportunity to secure a rare piece of early RAF WWII aviation history with an original Handley Page Hampden 240mph Airspeed indicator mounted in a stylish 100yr old Mango Wood Display Stand with engraved plaque and a highly-detailed 1/72 or 1/48 scale model of this classic early RAF medium bomber perched above, on its magnetic display arm.
This is an extremely rare Handley Page Hampden artefact and combined with a highly detailed scale model of the Hampden atop its Mango Wood Display Stand and accompanying Fact Sheet, would make a fantastic gift for any budding aviator, aviation enthusiast or experienced pilot!
